Why there’s built-in headroom
Engine manufacturers deliberately under-stress their hardware. Turbos, injectors, clutches and internals are almost always specified with a safety margin well beyond what the factory software asks of them — partly for durability across huge mileages, partly to suit worse fuel and worse climates than the UK sees.
A responsibly written remap works within that existing margin. We’re not asking the engine to do something it can’t handle — we’re asking it to use more of what it was already built to handle.
Where the real risk comes from
The genuine risks in tuning almost never come from the concept of remapping itself — they come from cutting corners: generic off-the-shelf files not matched to the exact engine and market, no pre-remap health check, no dyno verification, and no backup of the original file.
A worn clutch, a leaking boost pipe, a marginal DPF or an existing fault code can all turn a safe remap into a problem — which is exactly why we check the car over before we touch the ECU.
